Gorey U14 Boys produced a superb attacking performance on Sunday afternoon, running in a try-fest league win over Navan on the main pitch in Clonattin.

On a rare mostly dry and clear day, Gorey started strongly from the kick-off, immediately applying pressure and pinning Navan deep inside their own 22. From a scrum after four minutes, Eoin picked, carried strongly and slipped a lovely pass to Harry, who finished well for the opening try.

More pressure followed from the restart, with big rucking efforts from Hugh and Darragh setting the platform. A strong break from Hugh created the space for Eoin to cross for Gorey’s second try around the 12-minute mark.

With six minutes remaining in the half, a well-worked penalty move from halfway opened up space for Thomas to score an excellent long-range try. Shortly after, clever play from Alex saw him pass to Sam on the blindside, who offloaded to Rossi. The winger still had plenty to do but showed great determination to score his first try for Gorey.

Just before half-time, Navan made good use of a penalty to register a converted try of their own, ensuring Gorey couldn’t relax heading into the break.

The second half opened with strong carries from Andrew and more big defensive hits from Hugh, keeping Gorey firmly on the front foot. Harry was quick to capitalise on a loose pass, scoring under the posts. Soon after, a neat kick through from Alex allowed Eoin to finish his second try of the day.

Rossi continued to impress with a powerful carry through heavy traffic, before another smart switch from Alex released the strong-running Ronan, who finished well in the corner. Navan responded with a try of their own after capitalising on a couple of missed tackles, showing their attacking threat when given space.

Despite numerous personnel changes in the final quarter, Gorey continued to play positive rugby, with new players slotting in seamlessly. Harry capped off a fine team performance with another converted try to close out the game and also enjoyed a perfect day off the tee.

⭐ Man of the Match

A return to form in a relatively new position earned Andrew the Man of the Match award after an outstanding all-round performance.

Overall, this was an excellent display from both starters and finishers, highlighting the squad’s depth and the narrowing gap between first and next choice players.
