The Gorey U14 Girls kicked off their South East League campaign with a hard-fought and exciting home win over a strong Wicklow RFC side on Saturday.
Wicklow started strongly, taking an early lead with two tries and a conversion. However, the Gorey girls responded brilliantly, fighting their way back into the game with two tries of their own before half-time to set up a thrilling second half.
Gorey carried that momentum into the second period, crossing for three more tries. Wicklow continued to battle and added two further tries and a conversion, leaving the result on a knife-edge right to the final whistle.
When the whistle finally blew, Gorey had secured a superb 25–24 victory, with captain Caoimhe McCann leading her team to a memorable opening-day win.
The girls were cheered on by a great home support of parents and coaches, with a special guest on the sideline in Ireland and Leinster star Aoife Wafer.
A fantastic start to the South East League for the Gorey U14 Girls and a performance full of determination and team spirit.
Full-time: Gorey 25–24 Wicklow.
