On Saturday 31st January our under 14 girls travelled to the new venue of Tullow to play on their 4g Astro pitch due to waterlogged pitches for their double Header V Rhinos in Leinster League and South East Plate Final.

With an 11am KO, the girls did their warm up and were cheered out of the dressing room by parents and siblings.

With everything to play for Gorey received from KO, taken well and a good start of play, unfortunately Rhinos got hold of the ball and made full use of it, scoring first to make it 5 0 to the home side. Not too long to wait for Ruby Cowap, no. 11 to go over to even the score. A tough battle from both teams with Rhinos putting another try on the board. 10 5 at half time. With all to play for Gorey went out after half time, conceding a try, 15 5 before putting everything they had and climbing back into the game one try at a time..

With Gorey's 2nd try coming from No. 16 Holly Browne, and No. 10 Darcie Bailey converting, 15 12 with the 3rd try from no.12 and captain Rosie Ryan Gorey lead for the first time in the match 15 17. Gorey scored again to stretch the lead to 15 22 with a try from no. 17 Ciara Kinsella. Rhinos retaliated with a try  making it 20 22. Gorey's final try from no. 11 Ruby Cowap made it 20 27, with the minutes ticking by and an unfortunate high tackle Gorey conceded a penalty and went down to 14 and just on the cusp of the final whistle Rhinos went over for a try 25 27 to Gorey, after missing previous conversions Gorey prayed for Rhinos to miss the conversion, unfortunately it wasn't to be.

Rhinos scored levelling the score at 27 27, the final whistle blew and although a draw in the LL, the South East Plate went to Rhinos as the team who scored first.. devastation in the Gorey squad but a match that made parents, coaches and their manager beam with pride. A match where every player who pulled on the Gorey jersey wore it with pride and honour.

Player of the match was Mia O'Doherty no. 14. A force to be reckoned with, petite in stature but not in heart. A girl who goes out and gives absolutely 100% on the field, chasing the ball from kick off, never giving up on tackles and just being outstanding in everything she does.
