Leinster League Round 5 – Clonattin, Saturday 8th November

Gorey U15 Boys produced a superb all-round performance on a bright afternoon in Clonattin, running in multiple tries to claim a commanding victory over Wexford RFC in Round 5 of their Leinster League campaign.

The game opened at a frenzied pace. After winger Ryan Kenny fielded the kick-off cleanly, the pack drove forward through two powerful phases before the ball was spun wide through the backs, allowing Sam Gough to touch down in the corner for the opening score, converted by Olly Syme.

Gorey maintained the pressure from the restart, stringing together multiple phases of strong carries, sharp rucking, and slick handling. Sam Gough capitalized again, adding two more tries in quick succession to complete his early hat trick.

The relentless pressure forced errors from Wexford, and following a knock-on inside their own half, No. 8 Charlie Kennedy broke from the base of the scrum to power over for another try, with Olly Syme again slotting the extras.

At the 17-minute mark, centre Adam Deacon spotted a gap and used his trademark pace and footwork to sidestep two defenders and score under the posts. His midfield partner Aidan Brennan wasn’t to be outdone, crossing for a well-finished try after a key turnover at the ruck from flanker Jimmy Collier.

Wexford responded with determination, testing Gorey’s defence and eventually earning a penalty close to the home line, which they converted into a converted try.

As the half wore on, territory became the main battle. Fullback Finn O’Brien impressed with his fielding and counter-attacks, gaining huge meters after collecting a high ball. From the resulting possession, Donnachadh Kearney burst through several tackles to score the final try of a thrilling first half.

The second half brought several changes and Leinster League debuts for Seán Baguley, Adam Laurie, and Shay Cassidy, all recent signings from Arklow. Gorey showed no intention of easing up, with substitute winger Zach Curren cutting inside brilliantly to score a fine try, converted by Tyler Klopper.

Charlie Kennedy added another try after a bruising forwards battle, followed by Hugo O’Broin thundering over after some slick passing in the reshuffled backline, with Klopper again adding the extras.

Wexford’s grit was rewarded midway through the second half with a hard-earned try, but Gorey finished the stronger. Zach Curren showcased tremendous determination and resilience—especially after returning from injury—by adding two more tries to complete his hat trick and seal a comprehensive home victory.
