On Saturday, 2nd November, Gorey RFC hosted Wexford in the U13s Southeast League at their headquarters.
The match kicked off at 12:00 PM under damp and cool conditions. Gorey started strong, and after nine minutes of play, a well-executed pass from Paddy Fanning allowed Andrew Bailey to score the first try, though Oisin White narrowly missed the conversion. Five minutes later, a great tackle from Andrew provided Gorey with good attacking ball. Harry’s kick chase and a big carry from Jack Curley led to a try by Paddy, but the conversion was again missed. The resulting kickoff was claimed by the day’s captain, Thomas Rothwell, who stormed from his own 10-meter line to score in the corner, with Oisin successfully converting. Gorey led 17-0 at halftime.

Ten minutes into the second half, after sustained pressure, a penalty tap by Charlie Earls and excellent support play led to a try by Cayden Kavanagh, which was converted by Oisin. The next ten minutes saw strong defensive work from Wexford and a few handling errors by Gorey, keeping the score stable. With two minutes to go, a quick tap from Zach Bailey, showcasing his elusive running style, made huge ground but was denied by a heroic Wexford cover tackle. However, the quick Gorey ruck resulted in a try by Finn Brannigan, converted by Oisin. The match ended with Gorey securing a 31-0 victory, keeping the visitors scoreless.
Special mentions go to Andrew, Sam, Jack C., Harry, Paddy, Charlie, and the man of the match, Cayden Kavanagh, who was a proper hard-working nuisance at No. 6. A big thanks to the parents who supplied the lovely food, making it another great day at the office for the team.
