Gorey U14 Girls Crowned Leinster Plate Champions 🟢🔵⚪
Gorey RFC U14 Girls produced a brilliant battling performance yesterday in Energia Park to claim the Leinster Plate title, edging out Arklow in a thrilling final on a scoreline of 19–17.
Gorey started brightly and struck first to take a 5–0 lead, settling quickly into the occasion. They continued to apply pressure and were rewarded again with a second try, this time converted, to move into a strong 12–0 advantage.
But Arklow showed huge character and came roaring back in the second half. Two tries brought the sides level at 12–12, setting up a tense and fiercely contested finish.
With the game hanging in the balance, Gorey dug deep and broke the deadlock with another converted try, pushing themselves back in front at 19–12 with just five minutes remaining.
Arklow were far from finished and hit back again to narrow the gap to 19–17, making for a nerve-shredding final few minutes. From the restart, Arklow threw everything at Gorey, and hearts were well and truly in mouths as the girls defended under savage pressure.
But Gorey refused to buckle. With huge determination, teamwork and grit, they saw out the closing moments to secure a memorable Leinster Plate Final victory.
A fantastic achievement from the players, coaches and everyone involved with this brilliant group of girls. Days like this are what club rugby is all about.
