Our U14 Girls headed to Seapoint this morning as underdogs in their LL Div 2 Semi final.
Gorey took the kick off on a very windy but dry day. Unfortunately Seapoint kicked off the scoring with a try which wasn't converted, Gorey once again took the kick, and with some big tackles, big jackals and phenomenal rucks Gorey went over for a try from #15 Medbh Dowling.
There were errors in our game but Gorey fought hard and with some of their best teamwork this season #3 Holly Browne scored under the posts with #10 Darcie Bailey converting, Seapoint 5 Gorey 12.
Seapoint shortened our lead with another try. Some unfortunate kicks from Gorey gave Seapoint a couple of scrums as the wind brought the ball over the deadball line on 2 occasions, but on the cusp of half time Medbh went over for her second try with the conversion hitting the post, HT Seapoint 10 Gorey 17.
Gorey's game went from strength to strength. Their defense line was outstanding, the jackling was some of the best all season with turnover after turnover and penalties won for holding on. The pressure Gorey put Seapoint under kept the score at 10 17 until the last minute. With a scrum on the Gorey line, Seapoint scored just left of the posts, converting the same leaving the score 17 17.
Parents and coaches praying for a miracle as they took the kick, knowing it was last play they dug deep and with #18 Kila Doherty winning the ball in a jackal, passing it out, Medbh getting it and running to score her 3rd try of the game in the right corner. No conversion but enough for Gorey to take away the win as the ref blew the final whistle.
Final score Seapoint 17 Gorey 22. Next up Leinster Plate SF V Ravens in Roscrea next Saturday. A very proud day for parents, their manager and their coaches. 💙🤍💚
