On Saturday Gorey made the trip up to Cill Dara for the semi final of the McGowan Cup.

Blustery conditions greeted the teams as the match kicked off, Gorey made most of the early running with Daniel and James both making good carries. The first try came from a strong carry from William, who then set the ball back nicely for Emmet to find Lochlann, the ball was then flashed quickly though the hands by Charlie, Ronan and Joey before Harry touched down in the corner 0-5.

Gorey’s 2nd try was another well worked move though the backs with Joey adding the finishing touch, the move started do with a fantastic carry from Joe who firstly stole Cill Daras line out before using his strength to make good ground 0-10.

Gorey got a 3rd try before halftime, when Fionn who’s throwing was brilliant in difficult conditions found Ciaran in the line out, some big carries from William, Charlie and Ciaran seen Gorey just 5 metres out and when Emmet found Fiachra the was no stopping him from getting over. Fiachra added the extras to leave the halftime score 0-17.

Into the 2nd half and Cill Dara got the perfect start when their fullback pounced on a loose kick to out pace the Gorey cover 7-17.

Gorey responded well and after good work from Charlie, Josh found Lochlann who passed to Fintan, Fintan did well to draw the defender before releasing Joey out wide to score his 2nd of the day 7-22.

Cill Dara didn’t give in and hit back again after a sustained spell of possession in Gorey's 22 , 12-22.

Gorey got the final score when Josh found William who released Jack with a great pass, Jack had plenty to do but was too strong for the covering Cill Dara's defenders .

The win sees Gorey into their second cup final of the season where they will face Mullingar hoping to repeat their success after beating Tullow last week in the south east final.
