Saturday March14th, had us on the road again for our 3rd meeting with New Ross this season.

The sizeable Ross team created a few problems for us early, their defence squeezing every inch out of the offside line, Gorey finding it hard to put phases together. Finn made a welcome return with his jackling and lineout game. A good kick from a penalty into the 22 created a good chance but Harry just lost control of the ball in goal. A penalty move on 19 mins worked well and Eoin crashed over to open the scoring 5-0 and kick-start Gorey into gear.

Some lovely offloads from Darragh and Thomas and strong carries from Ronan setting the tone. A big counter ruck led to a Thomas break with Sam in support to put Ben in with 3mins left in the half, Alex converting  to make it 12-0.

A big carry from Andrew off the restart, some really pleasing ruck phases and Thomas picked his moment to crash over, bringing the half to an end at 17-0.

The 2nd half started with some big shots from Hugh and Ronan in the pack and Andrew in the backs, with Jack pulling another of his high stakes 1-on-1 tackles.

A quick lineout and a beaut of an offload from Ronan setting Hugh off on a 20m charge through traffic, followed by some side to side probing by the backs ended with Darragh claiming a well deserved try 10 mins in. 22-0.

A huge Wafer hit showed Gorey had no intention of easing off. Ross through good use of the boot got to apply territory pressure, Jack again doing very well at fullback dealing with a dangerous ball on our line, ultimately though the New Ross pressure paid off a few phases later. 22-7.

A big counter ruck from Wafer on the kick-off gave the chance for another Thomas pick and go special. 27-7.

Big carries and some good passing throughout the team created the opening for a well timed pop to the hard running Andrew to score a good centres try and finish the game 32-7.

A good performance all round against a physical New Ross team. Really pleasing to see some improvements in our rucking and link play up front and  identifying and attacking of space by the backs, as well as hard work and discipline, paying dividends and building resilience.

Ronan and Darragh both had their big moments but share Man of the match this week for their effort and work rate creating opportunities for the team.

With our semifinal opponents to be decided, up next our last league game against Naas next week
