Match Report – LL Plate – MU Barnhall vs Gorey U18.5 Girls
Gorey U18.5 girls produced another strong performance in the LL Plate against MU Barnhall, showing determination, solid defence and good attacking play to secure a hard-earned 21–14 win.
Gorey started well, winning an early scrum and moving play up the field with runs from Aoibhinn and Amy. Strong tackling from Aoibhinn, Amy and Lily, along with a good catch from Paige under pressure, helped keep Gorey on the front foot in the opening stages.
Gorey opened the scoring with a try from Aoibhinn, converted by Emer to give Gorey the lead. MU Barnhall scored twice before half time, but Gorey continued to work hard in defence with good tackles from Lily, Orla, Roisin and Derbhal. Amy and Aoibhinn carried strongly to bring Gorey back up the field, and Caoimhe made an important catch and clearance to relieve pressure, leaving the score 14–7 at the break.
Gorey started the second half with more intensity and quickly pushed play forward through pressure from Amy, Aoibhinn, Emer, Orla and Paige. Gorey worked their way back into the MU Barnhall half and levelled the match, with Emer adding the conversion.
Gorey continued to build momentum and kept play inside the MU Barnhall half for long periods. Strong defensive work from Cadi, along with aggressive tackling from Roisin, helped Gorey win back possession. Caoimhe made a powerful run to gain ground before Gorey crossed again, with Aoibhinn scoring. Emer added the conversion to put Gorey ahead 21–14.
Gorey stayed composed in the closing stages. A clever lineout move with strong lifting allowed Micheala to secure possession, and Gorey controlled the final minutes well to see out the game.
