Gorey travelled to Athy for a challenging encounter, playing the entire match with 14 players against Athy’s 15. Despite being a player down, the Gorey girls delivered a determined and competitive performance, showing real heart and teamwork from start to finish.

First Half
Gorey opened the match with massive early pressure, pinning Athy back and forcing them to defend deep in their own territory. It was a confident, high-energy start that showed real intent.

Athy managed to turn that pressure into counter-attacking opportunities and built up a lead, but Gorey stayed composed and kept pushing. Strong, collective pressure across the team sparked several positive phases, with excellent movement in attack involving the whole squad.

Their persistence paid off before half-time when Shona crossed for a well-earned try, finishing off a strong attacking sequence.

Half-Time Score: Gorey 5 – Athy 27

Second Half
Gorey started the second half with renewed organisation and confidence. A well-placed kick from Emer swung momentum their way, and she followed it by carrying the ball across the line for Gorey’s second try.

As the half progressed, Dearbhail and KD made strong contributions, helping Gorey maintain pressure and rhythm.

Defensively, Gorey were excellent. Roisin, Amy, Sierra and Aoibhinn all put in strong tackles, and further pressure from Shona, Emer, and Orla kept Athy under strain. Their determination eventually opened a gap, allowing Aoibhinn to break through for another well-taken try, which Emer converted.

Despite the final score, Gorey showed huge spirit and resilience, staying competitive throughout even with 14 players. A strong team effort with plenty of positives to build on.
