On Saturday the 31st, Clonattin played host to an exhilarating U15 Boys Premier League clash between Gorey and an on-form Mullingar side.
After days of heavy rain, the skies cleared, and the pitch held up remarkably well, setting the stage for an enthralling contest.

Gorey received the kick-off and made an immediate impact. Winger Sam Gough showcased his pace, scoring from 40 metres out after some slick handling, with out-half Tyler Klopper adding the extras. 7–0

Gorey maintained the momentum, pinning Mullingar in their own half. After winning two penalties through relentless pressure and fierce rucking, the reward came at the 11-minute mark when No. 8 Charlie Kennedy crossed the line, and Klopper’s conversion was spot on. 14–0

Mullingar responded with resilience, launching probing runs and creative play. The Gorey defence held firm, but Mullingar’s physicality paid off on 21 minutes, with their big centre crossing over and their out-half adding the extras. 14–7

Unyielding, Gorey struck back with a series of well-executed phases, culminating in centre Hugo O’Broin finishing brilliantly in the corner. 19–7

The restart saw both teams fiercely contesting possession. Mullingar capitalized on a handling error, earning a lineout inside the Gorey 22. Their centre crashed over for his second try, bringing the half-time score to 19–12 in Gorey’s favor.

The second half began with both sides showing fierce determination. Early exchanges were dominated by kicking, with Gorey having the upper hand in that department.

Mullingar pressed on and earned a penalty inside the Gorey 22 after a sin-bin for going off his feet at the ruck. Despite being reduced to 14 men, Gorey’s defence stood firm, with flankers Donnachadh Kearney and Jimmy Collier making crucial turnovers at the breakdown to relieve the pressure.

Well-placed kicks from Klopper, Brennan, and fullback Adam Deacon kept Mullingar guessing and  on the back foot. A well-executed lineout and strong forward play then saw captain Andy Jones power over, extending Gorey’s lead. 24–12

Mullingar responded swiftly, exploiting an overlap and bringing the game back to within one score. 24–19

Gorey dug deep, applying relentless pressure. A tense period followed, with Mullingar also seeing yellow and reduced to 14 men after a high tackle.

In the final minutes, Gorey’s commitment at the breakdown paid off, securing a crucial penalty and allowing Klopper to seal the bonus point victory with a flawless kick from outside the Mullingar 22.

Final Score: Gorey 27 – Mullingar 19
