Sat 17th we were on the road in the Premier division to face Athy.  The wet overnight meant the pitch was quite heavy but it was a nice mild day for rugby.

We hoped for strong start that led to immediate pressure in Athy's 22. A big tackle from Noah upped the pressure further allowing Eoin to make a clever intercept and touchdown after 4 minutes. 5-0.

A short restart resulted in a Gorey scrum on half way. A no.8 pick and a quick ruck later provided the perfect chance for a now regular site, Thomas picking and galloping up the pitch to score, converted by Harry. 12-0.

With 7 left in the half, further pressure led to a scrum on Athy's 22. A well called and worked switch move saw Harry score on the blindside wing, adding the extras with the boot. 19-0

A moment of messy broken play and missed tackles, led to an opportunistic try for Athy to end the 1st half. 19-5.

Scrum, maul and rucking dominance as well as relentless pressure continued in the 2nd half. Patient build up with good carries and offloads on show led to another Wafer try 5 mins in. 24-5.

A clever kick from Alex at 10, hacked on twice by Harry ended with Ronan deemed to be held up over the line, after a strong carry.

With the job done and a very unfortunate yellow card, Gorey's intensity dropped off a little and Athy took a converted try to end the game.

Full-time. 24-12.

A great performance today with a smaller than usual traveling group.

A few special mentions this week..
Hugh, Thomas and Eoin all had their usual impactful performances.
Harry had some great moments with the boot.
Alex ran the show at 10 with some good decisions and plays of his own.
Sam had a great day at 7, a real energizer bunny in defence and attack.

MOTM this week goes to Jeremi who overcame a sub-par (for him) first few mins, to put in a Spice-bag winning, energy sapping, hit-everything, 100% effort, leaving it all out on the pitch, effort to be proud of.

This week we have a rest weekend and hope to have a friendly to give some non-regulars valuable game time opportunity.
