This week we had a rest from League duty so a friendly v Wicklow was organised at home on Saturday 25th, providing the opportunity to get game time for some of our long lost GAA exiles, and a few of our newer players.
Plenty of changes in the starting line-up made little difference as Gorey got off to a strong start.
Finn set the tone from the kick-off with a strong charge up field feeding Tadgh in support, for the try.
Dominance in the remainder of the 1st half kept Wicklow scoreless adding try's for Thomas(2),Finn and Harry, windy conditions led to fewer than normal conversions.
Halftime 29-0.
The 2nd half saw some fresh faces on the pitch with debuts for Ben and Noah G. who both got stuck in.
A lapse in concentration led to a quick Wicklow score despite a big tackle attempt from Finn.
Hugh crashed over shortly after but Wicklow were not for quitting and took advantage of a few soft shoulders to score a good try down the wing.
A more even few minutes followed, Gorey's pack doing a good job disrupting Wicklow ball and our backs keeping the few dangerous looking Wicklow runners under control.
Andrew had a lot to do but powerfully finished a bit of great work by the team.
With 5 to go, returning no.8 Eoin found his scrum pick and go groove to score.
The last play of the match Ronan made one of his familiar big storming carries, denied by a very brave, bone crunching tackle on the 22 by Wicklow's 9, but good support from the boys saw Andrew rewarded with another score.
A big thanks to Wicklow for the game and well done boys on a great performance, especially the newer team members.
Man of the match this week goes to Finn , a great performance both sides of the ball, with some big moments matched with huge work rate through-out.
Up next Navan at home on the 1st at 3.
