U14 boys Leinster win
Boyne 0 - Gorey 31
Saturday 18th had a smaller than usual crew take on the long drive to Boyne for a Leinster game.
The team had a changed up look to it with boys getting their chance to start and some starting in unfamiliar positions.
Gorey established a foothold in the Boyne half due to some great kicking by Harry, and spend most of the game on the right side of the opposition 10. Gorey twice went close early, before pressure eventually led to a try on 16 mins. 7-0
Boyne had some good runners and could throw the ball around but our boys tackle count was high if a little sloppy at times. In the closing minutes of the 1st half, Hugh went close but we turned over the resulting scrum to score again.14-0 at half time.
With the halftime words still ringing in their ears, a big burst from Ronan and equally impressive clear out from Darragh provided good ball for the backs and another converted score. 21-0
From the kick-off Ronan claimed the catch, and went on another of his storming runs, the backs again scoring off the good go-forward ball.25-0
Boyne had their moments and were denied by some good cover tackling in both corners. Towards full-time Noah R. went on a fantastic swerving run only being denied by a tackle, deemed illegal.. from the penalty we score again to round off the day 31-0.
Boy's really stood up today , making the long trip and filling some unfamiliar positions. While no way a perfect performance, the team showed great effort, commitment to the cause, and composure through-out the game, never panicking and taking their chances when they came.
Special mention to our fill-in centre for the day, Andrew who took his chances and scored all our 5 trys. Harry converting 3.
This weeks Man of the Match goes to Jamie for quietly getting about his business , racking up a huge tackle and ruck count, nothing fancy...but relentless.
