Sat 11th Oct had us host Athy on the main pitch at Gorey HQ on a lovley autumn day.
We started strong ,but made life very much harder than needed for the opening period , with dropped balls, loose passes and blocked down kicks relieving pressure on Athy.
It took 15 mins before the pack could put a few good phases together and the team started to settle into their more usual selves.
Pressure on the Athy scrum and Thomas was there to claim the spilled ball and score in the corner ,adding the conversion .
7-0.
Moments later a nice catch and break from Jack and Thomas duly obliged again with his strong run to score and again converted.
14-0
To round off the 1st half great support by Jamie of Ronans big carry, a Hugh burst, and Andrew strongly finished off the attack with a real team score.
19 -0
After the break things started as they had ended the 1st,with good pressure finally leading to a scrum in Athys half , Andrew picked from the base and had a lot of work to do to avoid and break tackles over a fair distance to claim his second, the conversion off target. the score remained 24-0 untill the end with Goreys line never truly threatened despite Athy having a few dangerous runners.
Plenty to work on before next weeks Leinster trip to Boyne but a great result at home.
A few mentions of note Thomas .....as always ...and Jamie got through a mountain of work both sides of the ball, Zach had a lot of tackles to his name.
Man of the match this week goes to Sam, for doing what a 7 does , constantly working, fierce in defence, relentless at the breakdown, and a real leader on the pitch. 💚💙🤍
