A lovely autumn day for rugby greeted us at Gorey HQ on Sunday Oct 5th, with the team keen to get one back on Tullow after last years final loss.
Captain Paddy led from the front today with Thomas in particular relentless at ruck-time from the off.
Living in the Tullow half finally paid off after 13 mins with a nice chip from Alex, followed by composed side to side carries from the forwards creating space out wide for Jack Curley to score.
5 mins later again after sustained pressure in the green zone, a 22 scrum and a pick and go from no.8 Ronan saw him score, Thomas 's conversion coming off the post.
10-0.
On a rare Tullow visit into Gorey territory, good wing forward pressure from Sam on their 10 and Thomas pounced on the loose ball and ran the length to score even pulling off a nice sidestep, Alex adding the conversion.
17-0.
5 mins into the 2nd half, identification of space led to the boys calling a fixed penalty move from further out the pitch than usual, but the call was brilliant and Thomas romped over for another try converted by Alex.
24-0
Straight from the kick-off Harry made a great break with Andrew's hard running support line rewarded with a try, Alex adding the extras.
31-0
Tullow kept playing and a more even 10 mins followed not helped by a few offside calls against the home-side, Tullow score a well taken try and conversion.
31-7
With the bench emptied more normal service resumed for the remainder, topped off with a Hugh try after a coach pleasing number of phases of slow and controlled work from the entire team.
36-7
Man of the match today goes to Harry who had some great moments in attack and defence. Zach also had a great day both sides of the ball and special mention to Noah Rossiter who had nice impact on his debut.
Great to see the boys making better decisions, with some more slow deliberate play evident at times.
Up next week... Athy in the leinster league.
