Gorey RFC got their Leinster League Division 1B campaign off to the perfect start with a strong home performance against Kilkenny on Sunday in Clonattin.
Captain Isaac Porter led his side into the season opener, and it was Gorey who struck first when Cian Hadden slotted a penalty to make it 3-0.
Soon after, debutant Marcus Corcoran powered over for a superb try, with Con adding the conversion to extend the lead.
Gorey’s momentum continued when John Milne finished a classy move and converted his own try to push the score out to 17-0.
Kilkenny responded before the break, pulling it back to 17-5 at half-time.
With blustery and tough conditions throughout, both sides did well in their kicking game and made the most of territory when chances came. The second half saw more strong play from Gorey as Cian Hadden crossed for a well-taken try, before John Milne added his second of the day to seal the win.
Kilkenny battled hard and added further points, but Gorey stood firm to take the spoils with a 27-13 victory.
