Gorey U13s produced a powerful performance on Saturday to record a 27–7 win over local rivals Enniscorthy.

The game began in explosive fashion, as just 20 seconds into the contest Joey O’Sullivan lit up the field with a blistering run down the wing with Fiachra Kearney on hand to finish it off. It was a superb effort and the perfect start for Gorey.

From there, the forwards set the tone with relentless carries, driving into the heart of the Enniscorthy defence. Jack Kearns, Mark Byrne-Devitt, and James Dunne were central to this dominance, repeatedly punching holes with strong, aggressive runs. At the breakdown, William Langrell was outstanding — carrying hard, disrupting Enniscorthy ball, and ensuring Gorey kept the momentum.

The pressure soon told, as Fiachra Kearney powered his way through tacklers to score Gorey’s second try, showcasing his trademark strength and determination. With Enniscorthy struggling to contain the forward onslaught, space opened up for the backs.

At fly-half, Ronan McManus grew in confidence throughout, directing play with composure and linking well with his centres. Charlie Jones proved a real handful in midfield, with strong running and fierce tackling. Their combination was pivotal as McManus made a break, Jones linked superbly, and O’Sullivan crossed for his second try. Jones then added a try of his own, bursting through the defensive line with power and pace to give Gorey a commanding lead.

The second half brought fresh legs and renewed energy. Robert Ireton impressed with a series of powerful carries that constantly had Enniscorthy on the back foot. His efforts were rewarded when he bulldozed his way over for Gorey’s fifth try of the afternoon.

Enniscorthy battled bravely and grabbed a late consolation try under the posts, but it wasn’t enough to dent Gorey’s dominance.

The final whistle confirmed a deserved 27–7 victory for Gorey, built on teamwork, strong forward play, and clinical finishing out wide. It was an all-round squad performance to be proud of, with every player contributing to a fine win over their local rivals.

A special thank you to the coaches, the referee Martin Peters, sponsors and the host club Enniscorthy.
