Gorey’s U18.5 Girls put in a superb performance today as they travelled to Wicklow and came away with a well-deserved 27–17 victory.

From the outset, Gorey looked sharp and determined, with strong carries from the forwards setting a solid platform. The backs showed great composure with ball in hand, moving it quickly into space and testing the Wicklow defence. Their pressure was rewarded with an early try that settled the nerves.

Wicklow battled hard and responded with scores of their own, but Gorey showed real grit and organisation, particularly in defence, to keep the home side at arm’s length. Some excellent link-up play between the pack and backline saw Gorey cross for further tries, with accurate kicking adding valuable points to the scoreboard.

In the closing stages, Gorey’s fitness and discipline shone through. The girls finished the stronger of the two sides, sealing the game with a late try to put it beyond Wicklow’s reach.

This was a fantastic team effort from start to finish — every player contributed, and the result is a testament to their hard work on the training pitch.
