SETU Carlow was the venue for Gorey’s U18.5 Girls Leinster League Final today, under beautiful sunshine and a slight breeze Gorey started very spiritedly and were unlucky not to take the lead after some great possession early in the first half.
Gorey knew it was going to be a battle and a tight game but were well prepared and well up for the contest. Panthers took a 5-0 lead in at the break.
The 2nd half started as the first finished, intense pressure from Gorey however, Panthers sneaked another unconverted Try to take it to 10-0.
Gorey were pressing hard and had much of the possession following that but Panthers solid defence kept us out despite knocking on the door several times.
Elise Wan secured Gorey's only try of the game late in the 2nd half and the ref blew up following the unconverted try leaving it at 10-5 to Panthers at full time.
Gorey gave absolutely everything in this game and played their hearts out with some great attacking and defensive play. Whilst today wasn’t our day, we’ve another final to look forward to in the weeks ahead vs local rivals Arklow in the Southeast Plate for this magnificent team.
Up Gorey!
