Gorey U18 Girls overcame a tough challenge from Wexford on the road this morning to book their place in the Leinster League Final in SETU, Carlow next Saturday April 5th.
In damp, blustery conditions, Gorey trailed 14-5 at half time. Wexford were a force up front with 2 strong ball carriers in the pack but Gorey spent most of the half in the Wexford half and were unlucky not to go in with a narrower margin. Elise Wan with the Gorey try.
Wexford started the 2nd half well but were down to 14 players from a sin bin penalisation on the stroke of halftime. Gorey, with the wind at the backs put the ball in behind Wexford and capitalised on our pacey backline to seal the win with 2 unanswered 2nd half tries from Elise Wan and Niamh Ryan with the match winning try.
All the girls played fantastically well and we had great support from our bench from those that played and those unfortunate not to get on with it being such a tight and decisive game. A great squad performance.
Looking forward to seeing the Gorey support for our girls in the Final next Saturday in Carlow.
