Saturday 22nd March Gorey travelled to play Portlaoise in the Cup quarter finals.

The weather took a turn for the worse as we arrived. It was a cold, wet and windy day for a game.

The conditions led to a stop start affair with holding onto the ball for any length of time proving difficult.

On 9 mins good pick and goes from Charlie Earls and Thomas followed up by Eoin Wafer crashing over for the 1st try Harry converting.

A further 10 mins of nip and tuck ended when Gorey pressure led to a 10 m scrum, Eoin Wafer did what a good 8 should and smashed over again for Harry to convert.

On halftime a few uncharacteristic missed tackles let Portlaoise in for a try.  Halftime score 14-5.

10 mins into the 2nd half good pressure from the Gorey forwards resulted in some very rare clean ball, the backs obliged with nice hands to get it wide to Conn to scorch up the tramline and score, the conversion just off target.

Close to full time, with Gorey down to 14 due to a high tackle call, Portlaoise came hard at Gorey . They defended very well on the line, notably Darragh who numerous times, put in big dominant tackles. The pressure eventually rewarded Portlaoise with a converted try but the clock beat them and full-time came .Gorey win 19-12.

It was a tough day to play the way we wanted , but job done.

Today's result's mean we will be meeting Newbridge in both the League final and the semi in the Cup.

Up next weekend it's Carlow at home in the Southeast semi.
