It was a dry and cold night for the U16 girls who welcomed Wexford to Gorey for the semi final of the South East Cup.
The first half was low scoring and closely fought, an even match with little between the teams. Some of the highlights from a Gorey perspective where a jackal turnover by Dearbhail on the Gorey try-line, a break by Emer that made loads of ground, a jackal by Lilly, and a run by Amy that was stopped just short of the Wexford line. However just before halftime, Wexford got the first score of the game, a try and conversion, 0-7 to Wexford.
The second half started with an attack by Gorey, with runs by Amy and Jessicia and ended with Orla fighting her way over the try line to score; Gorey on the scoreboard 5-7. Fifteen minutes later Gorey went into the lead 10-7, with another super try by Orla. With 5 minutes to go, Wexford got their second try to go back into the lead 10-14. With time running out Gorey were camped in the Wexford 22 and from a penalty and a couple of runs at the line, the ball got turned over and Wexford thinking the game was over kicked the ball into touch.
But the ref gave the lineout and from the last line-out Gorey attacked again but another turn-over ended the game.
It was a fabulous competitive match and very entertaining for the watching crowd. The team all played their heart out all the coaches were very proud of the team, well done all.
