Against the odds U18 win…

Under lights on a cold November Friday night, promotion to Division 1 was the  prize for the winners between our U18 girls and our opponent; Rhinos in Carlow.

Having already been beaten twice this season, we knew what to expect, however, we started slowly, going down to 2 early converted tries. The girls bounced back quickly to narrow the gap to 9 points but Rhinos struck again on both sides of the break with a try for Gorey in between.

Despite a strong start to the 2nd half by Gorey, Rhinos lead 26-19 with time running out in a very intense game where Rhinos indiscipline was getting punished by Gorey after a yellow card when another try was scored by Gorey to make it 26-24 with less than 2 minutes to go, following the restart, Rhinos saw another player see yellow and with the wind on their heels, Gorey went relentlessly for the Rhinos line to score in the last seconds, the final whistle blew following the narrowly missed conversion but Gorey took the win in emphatic fashion 26-29 to beat Rhinos in a great game and to take the spot in Division 1 ahead of Rhinos in phase 2.

Everyone gave it their all, they should be very proud of themselves.
