The teams final match of phase 1 was away to Mullingar.
Mullingar opened the scoring after 10 minutes from a line-break and then Gorey struck back with a multi-phase play in the Mullingar 22 with carries by Aoibhín, Aoife, Emer and Ciara before Niamh fought her way over for her first try of the year. Emer knocked over the conversion to level the scores 7-7. Seven minutes later Mullingar got over the line and then Aoibhín powered over with an unstoppably run to level the scores at 12-12. The final score of the first half was for Mullingar leaving them ahead 19-12 at half time.
The second half started with an attack by Gorey which was turned over in the opposition 22 and as Mullingar were passing the ball amongst their backs, they were caught brilliantly by Amy who intercepted and had the short run-in to score. Emer got her second conversion to level the game once again at 19-19. Two minutes later, Mullingar had a break and despite Heather bringing to ground a Mullingar player just before the Gorey line, the player got the ball away to a team-mate to score (24-19). The match swayed decisively at this point when Mullingar got two more tries in fifteen minutes leaving them well ahead on the scoreboard at 38-19. But even during this period there plenty of super play by the girls, with turnovers by Aoife and Orla and two by Lily and strong carries by plenty of players. Amy got a super try at the end of the game to leave the final score at 38-24 to Mullingar.
There was plenty of candidates for Gorey player of the match, Aoibhín for her countless power runs and Amy getting 2 tries, but today it went to Niamh with a super all-round performance, as well as her try.
