The boys travelled to Tullow to play under lights last Friday evening.
A very tightly contested game against the reigning Southeast League winners and last seasons Leinster Cup winning side, away from home and on an unfamiliar surface.
Both teams started strong & the tackles were coming in hard from both sides. Gorey were first on the scoreboard with a great run from 2nd row Zac Rath into the Corner.
Tullow retaliated quickly with 2 tries from a very strong pack.
However never to be outdone, Goreys winger, Sam Gough scored a brilliant try under the posts which was converted by Olly Syme.
The teams were close with Tullow a score ahead at 19-12 starting the second half but Tullow came out scoring another 3 tries in quick succession. Gorey didn’t allow themselves to get their heads down and in the last 10 minutes with a score line of 34-12, they worked hard to pull themselves back into the game with another try by Sam Gough converted by Olly. The boys were dogged, never stopped fighting and worked together for Donnachadh Kearney to get over the line for another try which Olly converted.
The final score was 34-26 to Tullow, the team played brilliantly together and we’ve no doubt that on the return leg of the fixture, the lads will come out fighting for the win.
Tries: Zach Rath, Sam Gough x 2, Donnachadh Kearney
