Gorey J2 welcomed DLSP to Clonattin on Sunday for the first game of the new season.
Gorey took to the field with a mix of youth and experience. Within minutes both teams had landed a penalty each as both teams looked for openings. Gorey carried well and on the twentieth minute after a number phases Reece Hughes finished off and excellent passage of play To go in under the posts Jake Kavanagh converted.
Gorey were growing in confidence and from a quick lineout off the top by Sean Traynor Gorey launched a passage of play that saw the ball travelling through the back line Jake Kinsella chipped ahead for Anthony Gahan to race in and touchdown. The score was 20 3 at the break.
DLSP up their game in the second half and Nathan Mullen scored the try of the match when deep inside their 22 a quick reverse pass opened up the Gorey defence for him to run the length of the field. 20 8
Again DLSP kept the pressure up and another try and conversion reduced the Gorey lead to 20 15.
Gorey defended well for the next 15 minutes and with 5 to go Jake Kinsella added a further penalty to leave 8 between them for a Gorey victory.
