Match Report – Gorey RFC U18.5 vs Tullamore RFC
Venue: Clonattin Road, Gorey
Final Score: Gorey 40 – Tullamore 10

Gorey U18.5 boys produced a superb all-round performance in Clonattin Road today, running out 40–10 winners over a tough Tullamore side in dry but windy conditions.

From the very first whistle, Gorey set the tone. Inside the opening three minutes, Charlie Webb crashed over for the first try of the game after strong carries from the pack and sharp handling out wide. Out-half Rory Cooper took control of the kicking duties early on, adding points from the tee with penalties and conversions to keep Gorey firmly on the front foot.

Tullamore grew into the game and were rewarded with a well-taken try in the first half, but Gorey hit back before the break. Sustained pressure in the Tullamore 22 eventually told when Charlie Donovan powered over the line for Gorey’s second try. With Rory’s boot adding the extras and penalties where needed, Gorey went into halftime with a deserved 15–5 lead.

Second Half – Gorey Take Control
The second half belonged to Gorey. Playing with confidence and tempo, the home side stretched the Tullamore defence time and again.

First to cross after the break was Rory Cooper, capping an excellent personal display by spotting a gap and diving over for a try of his own. Not long after, Diarmuid O’Shaughnessy finished off another flowing move to further extend Gorey’s lead, as the forwards and backs combined superbly.

Gorey kept the scoreboard ticking, with George Murphy adding his name to the try-scorers list following more sustained pressure in the red zone.

Fittingly, it was Man of the Match, Charlie Webb, who rounded off the scoring with his second try of the game. His work-rate, strong running and defensive effort set the standard all afternoon.

Tullamore battled to the end and added a second score, but Gorey’s dominance in territory, defence and discipline ensured there was no way back for the visitors, sealing an impressive 40–10 victory.

A fantastic home win built on teamwork, physicality, and clinical finishing – well done to all players and coaches, and thanks as always to the supporters on the sideline.
