Friday the 19th saw the 14s travel to Enniscorthy for a Southeast clash.
The wet night made for a slippy ball but the boys put on a great performance. From the kick-off Gorey pressure kept Enniscorthy in their own 22, after 7 mins a turnover gave Thomas the chance to show his footwork and score. 5-0.
4 mins later a planed kick chase from Harry with a brilliant tackle and steal from Jack ramped up the pressure leading to a Zack try after he took the ball at pace on a great line from Harry, who knocked over the conversion. 12-0.
Enniscorthy came back hard to get into our half for the 1st time but an important turnover from Thomas and a big kick from Alex relieved the pressure. From the lineout there followed some great play by both forwards and backs ,a pick and go special from Charlie had him crash over near the posts, converted by Alex. 19-0.
Some noteworthy moments from the remainder of the 1st half ...Paddy put Patrick in space with a lovely pass who went pretty close, and a big Patrick tackle and Zach turnover when we looked in trouble.
Enniscorthy came out strong in the 2nd half and quickly scored a try. 19-5.
The boys had to really man up to deal with Enniscorthy's strong ball carriers. The much more even 2nd half battle was broken with about 10 mins to play by a great run from Ronan and lovely hands and a switch from the backs getting Tadhg space to score, the conversion just out of range. 24 -5.
This is where the score remained.
Particularly pleasing to the coaches tonight was the way the boys worked things out for themselves and put some of the plans from training into action. The efforts and performance from each and everyone on the squad was outstanding with too many big moments from most to mention, and a few selection headaches for the coaches is a great result.
Man of the match goes to Thomas
